He was a founding member of the Indian Mujahideen. He was one of the examples of how efficient and dangerous the Indian intelligence agencies were.



The operation to capture Bhatkal was the result of a long-term, meticulous plan by the Indian intelligence agencies IB (Intelligence Bureau) and RAW. His capture from Nepal in August 2013 was a major success. Bhatkal had managed to escape several times due to prolonged surveillance and missteps. He then went into hiding in Nepal for several years. He was living there under the name Dr. Shahrukh or Yunus, a Unani doctor. But one small mistake caught the attention of the detectives. But there were several legal complications in bringing someone from another country and it required solid evidence. Moreover, at that time, the Pakistani network was also very active in the Nepali administration. Through local sources, detectives gathered information and learned that Bhatkal was staying in a house in Pokhara, Nepal, and later in Kathmandu.He regularly played football with the locals and lived a normal life by mingling with them. After comparing his pictures and physical appearance, it is confirmed that he is Yasin Bhatkal.

Detectives conducted a raid on the night of August 28, 2013. But due to the number of problems from the locals, the Nepal Police had to be kept with them. For a long time, Bhatkal identified himself as a resident of Nepal and an engineer. But Bhatkal could not answer why an engineer was living as a Unani doctor. Then he was arrested. Along with him, another notorious terrorist and bomb specialist was caught as an additional debt.

Due to legal complications, the Nepal police handed over these two people to Indian intelligence at a place called Raxaul on the India-Nepal border.Intelligence officers identified him inside Nepal, but he was strategically brought closer to the border to avoid international legal complications.His real identity was then confirmed based on some special birthmarks on his body and information available to detectives. After his arrest, he was quickly brought to Delhi. India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) began questioning him and he was later accused of being the mastermind behind the bombings in multiple locations in India.

Human Intelligence (HumInt) played a bigger role than technology in catching Bhatkal. His neighbors in Nepal never imagined that the calm and collected "Dr. Saheb" they knew was actually India's most wanted man.


This operation was a major success for India's intelligence agencies and RAW.
